The Products:
We’re really happy with this GREENish Box. There’s a fun variety here and a few different types of sustainability being showcased, which is always great.
Scrunchies from Field & Fibre (instagram.com/fieldandfibre)
These scrunchies are handmade in Muskoka by our friend Melissa with her exciting new initiative, Field & Fibre. The yarn used from We Are Knitters (www.weareknitters.ca) is made with 95% recycled cotton.
HOT TAKE: We love supporting other Muskoka businesses and these scrunchies are a perfect fit for us, we’re thrilled to be carrying them and we’re excited to watch Field & Fibre grow. Full disclosure, we didn’t try these ourselves because our hair type just isn’t right for a scrunchie, but we had a couple of our top liaisons help us out and the feedback that came back was phenomenal.
Summer Solstice Dark Roast from Birch Bark Coffee (birchbarkcoffeecompany.com)
Birch Bark Coffee is an Indigenous-owned business supporting Indigenous coffee growers and giving back to clean water initiatives. They are a great example of a business working to achieve social sustainability. All Birch Bark Coffee including this Summer Solstice roast carry the SPP certification. Retail value: $18
HOT TAKE: Stay tuned for a lot more of this from us at the Muskoka Shipyards and in our online store. We love everything about what Mark is doing with his company, and the coffee is incredible.
Small Beeswax Wraps 2-Pack from Oh Beehive (www.ohbeehive.ca)
Our friend Alison in Barrie makes the best beeswax wraps in the business and she’s made a little snack pack for our subscribers! We know we’ve included her beeswax products before but really, you can always use more. Use these to keep any small foods fresh in your kitchen or on the go. Retail value: $11
HOT TAKE: We’ve included a number of products from Oh Beehive, located in Barrie, in the past few boxes. We love what Alison is doing and we’re proud to be working with her and helping with her new product releases as well. We highly recommend checking out her Instagram and website!
Laundry Sheets from Kind Laundry (www.kindlaundry.com)
A laundry strip that saves on packaging, shipping, and is made with just five non-toxic ingredients. Lower price point than competitors and they do a great job. Retail value: $22
HOT TAKE: We thought you’d like trying a different brand of laundry strips than what we’ve included before to see what you think. To make them last even longer, try tearing them in half, we’ve found the cleaning power is pretty good even with a smaller amount!
Greeting Card from Helen Grose Photography (www.helengrose.ca)
These beautiful greeting cards are produced by one of our GREENish Box subscribers, Muskoka-based photographer Helen Grose. Be sure to check out her amazing work! The envelopes are made from recycled paper. Retail value: $5
HOT TAKE: We’d love to include more from our subscribers to showcase everything great that you’re doing. Reach out anytime if you’re producing something that you think might fit - just email Adam at adam@greenishcanada.com, or DM us on on the socials!
Scrub Pads (2-pack) from SKOY (www.skoycloth.com)
These scrub pads are our favourites. They’re made from cotton and a food grade non-toxic hardener and will last a long time. Use them on just about any surface in your kitchen or around your home. Retail value: $10
HOT TAKE: Wash them in the dishwasher on the top rack, or just put them in a little boiling water, and you’ll find these things last a LONG time, and are super practical. Also, SKOY is into making positive choices when it comes to their production and staffing.
A couple notes on packaging:
Because there are so many of you (thank you thank you thank you), we’re now using recyclable boxes, unbranded so that you can reuse them as well if you choose. We’ll also take them back from you if that’s logistically doable and use them for a future delivery. As for the rest of it, we’ve made our own packing strips in a shredder by reusing paper and paper bags that we’ve collected, mostly from shipments we’ve received, and of course from the LCBO (their logo is green, it works). We’ve also used a form of paper tape which is a bit better than plastic, and our labels are made from recycled paper. So hey, we’re not perfect, but we’re making an effort to get better every time.
