On Failure and Renewal

IMG_6599.jpg

Hey everyone.

It’s been - quite a while - now since we’ve written, which seems an awfully long time to starve a blog of content.

A typical year will be rife with examples of ignored responsibilities; since March 2020*, such failures hardly register.

Failure to meet deadlines? Check.

Failure to follow through on projects? Check. (Turning away projects?! Check.)

Failure to anticipate all of this? Definitely.

Failure to … work at all? Seems like it some days.

When the schools in Ontario closed for the first time, just a couple of weeks after we posted a blog on March 3, I recall thinking it likely would impact my productivity.  That was perhaps my only accurate prediction for what was to come.

I did not predict I would buy, assemble…and then completely ignore feeding my new composter.

And I definitely did not predict that Crockatt would need so much patience … and not just with me. (Welcome baby Mattie!!)

GREENish began with the focus of encouraging people to take their first steps on the path to ‘going Green.’  Awash in the changes of the past 18 months, we missed out on opportunities to communicate our own and others’ successes and failures. And a lot has happened in 18 months: Some cool new re-use initiatives launched in Ontario, and zero-waste grocers and meal kits took off across the Country. Of course, not all of it was great news …. some cities burn their waste now (looking at you, Toronto).

Going forward, you can expect to see Blog posts a little more regularly – I’ll have lots to say about how to empty your cupboard of pre-packaged snacks (most of it involves eating them after the kids’ go to sleep). We’re looking forward to getting the discussion on going Green…ish started again.

*We’re calling it “The After Times” now.
